Janet Cowie, Director of Instruction Programs (she's the one on the right)
Janet manages our instruction programs including whitewater kayaking, canoeing and rock climbing. She is also our logistics guru for food services, vehicles and first aid. Since 1996, Janet's people skills and infectious enthusiasm have helped grow our instruction program to become one of the premier kayak schools in the country. Janet has been paddling and teaching since 1982 and is an ACA certified kayak instructor trainer. She received her bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts.
Jim Sullivan, Assistant Instruction Manager
Jim is both a versatile instructor and a highly skilled paddler. His forte is translating what he does on the water into words and concepts. He started paddling in high school and has become one of the top paddlers in New England with several local first descents and medal finishes in freestyle competitions. Soft spoken, articulate and patient, Jim is an excellent instructor for a variety of learning styles.
Mike Porter
Mike is both a great paddler and a great teacher. He is an all-around outdoor athlete with a background in skateboarding and snowboarding that makes him a natural freestyle paddler. He frequently runs the West Branch of the Deerfield and other local creek runs and he is also a raft and zip line guide.
