How is whitewater kayaking different?

Whitewater kayaking lets you explore places very few people go and it gives you the thrill of challenging yourself in an environment that looks intimidating at first, but with some knowledge and skill, can be beautiful, exciting and full of possibilities.  

Sea kayaking skills have a lot in common with whitewater kayaking skills, though there are some important differences when you get into paddling in moving current.  It's a good idea to take a novice course, even if you have some sea kayaking background so that you get a thorough background in whitewater kayaking.
